REMEDY OF THE DAY: FICUS RELIGIOSA Banerjee P., Materia Medica of Indian Drugs. Found all over India, its a large fig-tree allied to banyan, bo-tree Remains fresh all seasons. the leaves used for worship by Hindus. In sanskrit, Pippal, Shri-Breeksha, Bengali Aswattha, Hindi-Pipal, Gujarati, Jari, Telegu, Riga, Rabi Chatta, Tamil. Ansamaram: English Poplar leaved fig-tree, sacred fig, Latin Ficus Religiosa. The bitter principle is astringent, blood-purifier, anti-bilious, stomachic and used to remove blood poisoning, vaginal ulcer. It is very useful in the cases of hemorrhage of the intestine, lungs, uterus, stomach, nose and hematuria. Headache, restlessness, burning sensation,, vertigo, nausea, warmth. Bleeding from the nose attended with restlessness clots of scarlet blood, creeping sensation followed by bleeding dyspnea, rapid pulse. Stomach hematemesis, colicky pain. Urine and stool, bleeding from the uterus or hematuria, feel of pressure in the lower pelvic region. The drug is very effective in piles and blood dysentery. as a phytoterapeutic Charak- Green leaves of peepul tree applied to wounds for the purpose of healing. In acute gout 2 tolas of bark is boiled in water vigorously; reduced to half, the cooled and taken with sugar, twice a day. Chakradutta-application of the ground bark on burns or wounds Washing vagina with the decoction of the bark by means of a clyster-pipe helps in healing vaginal wounds. Beatriz H Hill!
