PHILOSOPHY: For treating insane-patients, I never allow any insane person to be punished, because there can be no punishment for involuntary actions, and because these patients deserve nothing but pity, and are always made worse and not better by such rough treatment. The physician in charge of such unhappy people must indeed have at his command, an attitude which inspires respect.
