RHUS TOXICODENDRON: Periodic attacks of sciatica from exposure to damp and overstrain. Tearing burning pains with numbness. Worse from rest and at night. Movement gives relief for a little while only. The patient is exhausted and irritable.
ACONITUM: When sciatica comes on following exposure to cold windy weather. Restless and worse at night. Dislikes being touched but appreciates warmth. The pain is intolerable and surrounding leg feels numb.
BELLADONNA: Severe pains, restless and must keep changing position to find relief. Likes warmth, and letting the limb hand down. Cannot bear the chlothes to touch him/her.
COLOCYNTHIS: The pains extend to the knee or heel, worse from movement and from cold. A feeling of a tight band round the thigh. An irritable, easily angered patient. The anger increases the pain. The pain is relieved by pressure.
PULSATILLA: For mild forms of sciatica where there is a sense of fatigue and heaviness. Veins full and distended. Pains move about and are worse when very warm. Always better in the open air. The patient is of a gentle type.
NUX VOMICA: Shooting pains to the foot, with stiffness and contraction of the limb which feels cold and paralysed. A restless, constipated patient. Pain is relieved by pressure and a hot bath.
